My First Tutoring!!!!

first i am going to introduce myself my name, and use my casual voice then let them intriduce themselves to me. After we could start talking about the paper i will ask the student if i could have a couple of min to read his paper. when i am done i will tell him the parts i really like and some parts he maybe should rephrase and re talk about. then I will ask him what is the part that he needs most help in the paper. i will then try to help him. I will also go over the assignment to make sure the paper has everything it is asked to have such as quotations to support the idea of the paper. Also i want to make sure the student pints out the thesis in his paper and make sure it matches what he will be talking abut in the assignment. i want to check his organization of there paper maybe if something else will make better senses in another paper of the paper help the writer with that. I want to be able to help the writer in every way possible and mostly with what the students feels more uncomfortable with. i want to be able to provide the writer with the tools he will need maybe later on in the paper. I will also help the student make a goal list that they can later on go back to and see if they implemented everything that it was asked of them to do in the paper. My major goal is to be able to help the writer in his writing and help them to hand in the best piece of writing they can.

Observation #2 and #3

In my second observation the tutor i got was very nice in the sencw i was superised to see that it was only one student this time rather then two. the tutor she helped the student a lot by letting the student read her paper by herself so she could see where she messed up. also i think she was Maybe a little too nice. The student was writing a philosophy paper and she was going off topic telling the totuer her personal life thing about her family and kids. I thought the tutor was going to cut her off and refocus her to her assignment but the tutor let her go on it become a little too personal to be a tutoer. This is a classic example of what a tutor should not become which is therapy. As a tutor you should never get too personal, After the student was done and focused back to the paper the tutor did a very good job she saw that it was a HOC problem in her paper  because the student could not create a thiese for her paper. the tutor also did a lot of cheer leading she would praise at everything the student would say something and that kind of confused the student because she was asking her after so which one is better the first one or second one?. I was also able to see that in this part of the writing center the walls were much more decorated with paintings and articles pg newspapers then any other part of the writing section i would like to know why is that? . i really loved how the tutor asked the student questions that help her clarify the side she was taking in her paper.

My third tutoring session is by far my most favorite one. I loved the tutor. There were two students and one tutor. The tutor did not waste no time she went right away to asking them what a they needed help with. the first student that was very rude the student just went in and asked how to spell 3 words and the meaning of the words, after the tutor went to get a dictionary which i loved a lot. this was a short session with the tutor and it was really enjoyable just a couple pf grammar problems and some spelling her and their . the tutor did repeatedly ask if the student needed help with anything else. she saw they had a of time left and she asked if they had another assignment from another class. i really enjoyed that because it was obvious she wanted to help them and provide as much help as possible

Observation #1

In this observation i was very happy and pleased to see if that there are many tutors that do really help you and are very helpful to students. In this observation there were two students obtaining help. the tutor asked the students what they were here for very nicely. i saw the tutor had her cellphone on her hand and she received a text but put it away and ignored it. The tutor decided to do one page with one student and then another page with another. she read the first page and saw that his thesis  was not there but rather at the end of the second paragraph. this is cornered a HOC's (higher order of concern). she helped him create the thesis  by asking him what his point was that he wanted to prove in the essay. i noticed that her body language was great and very conftable she sat right next to the student but asked first if it was ok with the student. i relized that the tutor was trying to be very proffessinal sometimes the student was going off topic trying to tell her stories but the tutor very nicely said" great so lets get back to the essay' smiling very sweet. she did not become her therapyiest.  i did notice something that the tutor did which i thought was not a very good thing. When she was with the second student she kept preysing him saying" oh wow great idea","amazing struturce". One thing that i thought was kind of confusing which am not sure it falls under the catagory of upsurping ownership is the tutor would tell the students what words to out or replace them with and she would spell them out for the student. i really think that wasnt professional because she could have asked the students other words he thinks would be better to put in. i loved the way she gave them a advice on how to strusture the essay i think it even helped me, she said "try to put the topics in your introduction your going to talk about in the order your going to talk about it". I also nocited the student that the tutor was prasing left sooner and seem to have got all the help he needed, rather then the student who she would ask questions too. The tutor explained terms like verbs, subjective. before leaving she refourced if there is anything else to be fixed or if there anything else the students needs help in thier writing. Overall really great expirences and great tutor i really enjoyed it.

useful and not useful strategies as a tutor

In the videos we watched it was pretty clear that in the writing center the tutor will face many different situation with the writer. for example you could have the student that texts while she is being helped. a good way to be tutor and to handle this is by asking the student to please turn off cellphones, he could also be able to to be a role model by turning his cell phone off. the tutor could also ask the student to step outside and take care of her business. A not so good thing to do as a tutor is huffing, rolling eyeballs or even ignoring the texting because then it will become a lost session. In the writing center as a tutor you have to be aware that you will always find students with poor attitudes. a tutor should always try to keep the writer on topic and sometimes explain to the writer what your job is as a tutor. some things you should not do in a these situations are too much praising, do not do the writers work for them, and do not give them the answers to there problems. There is also another situation where the students comment plagiarism in there papers. a good tutor should explain to them why we need to give credit to the people who write the sources we use. as well reinforcing what could happen to you based on the schools policy. then there are people who take it too offence. As a tutor you do not change the paper for them, you do not  them, and you not force them to do anything that they are not willing to do.

1- What makes a successful tutor is being welcoming to to writer, being to able to release some stress on the writer. the tutor must help the student identify the problem themselves. the tutor should be prepared by giving the writer some links, books that might help the writer. the tutor should always stay focus on the topic, writing and be professional. the tutor should always give honest feedback, lastly a tutor should always be available for the needs of the student.

2-  some common point that a good teaching shares as well as a good writer is they should always have honest feedback, try to always be available when the helped is needed. help the writer feel less stress and that everything will be OK. lastly help the student try to identify the problem themselves and help when improving on them.
